Introduction to one of the Friday evenings bands. 3PLAY is a band comprising three musicians with both history and pedigree. What is remarkable is that they have not until now played as the power trio which they are set to become. Albert Mills needs no introduction to those with a love of classic rock and blues. The bassist/vocalist was a stalwart of the now legendary ‘Light’ in the seventies, further combining with Jim Armstrong and John Wilson in the fondly remembered and respected ‘Jim Armstrong Band’. His impressive CV also reveals a period with Eric Bell and other luminaries of the rock pantheon. Eddie McKee’s place in Northern Ireland’s impressive musical inheritance was assured as drummer with ‘Richmond Hill’ and ‘Zip Code’, also periodically sitting in with the Jim Armstrong Band. More recently, Eddie has been a regular with the evergreen ‘Otis and the Elevators’. Belfast man Peter Spratt played guitar for two other legendary bluesmen, sadly no longer with us. Jim Daly was a demanding leader of his own hugely respected blues ensemble, within which a number of musicians were lucky enough to cut their early musical teeth. But it was with the sorely missed and much loved Jim Gilchrist that Peter is most obviously associated, with whom he shared the stage for several years in the eighties. Indeed, it was the tragic death of Jim which planted the seeds for 3PLAY, as the tribute gigs of three years ago reunited Peter with Albert after a period of over twenty years. Expect blues with a feeling and the influences of Cream, Peter Green and Rory Gallagher.

One of the Saturday night Bands. The Mighty Mojos are a musical blast of fresh air! Refreshing and original, they sound like nobody else out there. A blend of rock and blues songs with killer hooks and grooves, catchy riffs, dynamic drums and bass combined with one of the best local blues vocalists you’ll ever hear! It’s a recipe for a great band. That’s why they’re called the MIGHTY MOJOS.To say The Mighty Mojos rock and blues band are shocked is an understatement. When Severn FM’s ‘Blues Hour’, hosted by Dr Wart Hoover, ran its Best Band 2013 competition, voted by the public, its frontman, Lee Hedley, from Newtownards, said they were happy enough to be nominated in the final 12. They expected that to be the end of it because of the blues heavyweights they were up against from the UK and US, which included The Black Crows, The Spin Doctors and Joe Bonamassa. Lee said: “I only logged in to the end of the show to hear. They said the final winner of the UK band competition was The Mighty Mojos from Northern Ireland, and then the DJ played our tune. We were saying ‘What? How can this be?’” When asked how he felt about winning, he said: “It’s massive news in the music world, especially for blues. Northern Ireland punches above its weight yet again; it’s crazy. There are bands in England saying ‘Who’s the Mighty Mojos?’ It’s just insane. Well, we’ll take it.” The rest of the band are just as stunned: “The band’s knocked out. We’re an original band from Northern Ireland - it doesn’t really start off very well. We’re not a tribute band, we don’t play middle of the road stuff; we’re a rock and blues original band. We were up against those heavy hitters, and yet the public voted for our band. We can’t take it in at the moment.” The four-piece is made up of Lee on vocals, David Kennedy on drums, Ali McKenzi on bass and David McClean on guitars. Already no strangers to receiving airplay, they have been played on nearly every blues show in the UK, and with their latest accolade it looks like more doors may be opening for them. However, Lee said they’ll still do what they’ve been doing from Day 1 - gigging across Northern Ireland

Opening act Saturday night. What the listeners say: ".........Every time I play the album (which is very often) I find something new and interesting. Hence my favourite track changes with every listen." Ronnie Purvis (Creative Voices NI) "....Odibal’s “Rolling with the Times” represents a sort of Neo-Folk revival, if you will. In the way REM introduced the indie folk music to the world in the 80s, Odibal pays homage to that while staying true to their own roots with blithe addition to strings and whistle; and the fact that the vocalist sounds like Michael Stipe is a bonus in my book." Noelle Ellis (Gigging NI) "....If you’re a proud owner of ’Bringing it all back home’, then ‘Rollin’ with the times is for you.’’ The band have a knack for creating great drive music and aren’t afraid of social comment and drawing on the positives life has to offer." Robert Craven (Independant Music Review Ireland) "......Odibal's second album shows they have matured into a well-oiled music machine destined for big things. Think Mumford & Sons meet The Lumineers - you should check them out " Sunday Life

Headline for Saturday night. - The Rough Diamonds have made quite a name for themselves since their arrival on the Belfast rock scene playing classic covers from Whitesnake, Led Zepplin, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Journey and many more popular bands past and present. The band is fronted by the charismatic Gary O’Neill, who has been charming audiences for years with his raw, gritty vocal style and onstage antics. Since his departure from his former band “The Rockaholics” Gary decided to assemble a fresh new gem of a band together comprising of like-minded musicians with a passion for playing some of the best classic rock tunes around. His fellow band members consist of some of Northern Ireland’s top musicians- Doghouse bassist Ian Cairns formerly of Ajenda and The Lee Hedley Band; drummer Stevie Campbell who previously played with Worldsend, No Hot Ashes and Lisa Dominique and last but not least, guitarist, Ian “Speedo” Wilson who has rocked out many a chord with bands such as Sweet Savage and Flash Harry. The resulting mixture of talents are The Rough Diamonds. A powerhouse blend of rock and blues; subtle but at the same time hard edged. A musical experience that promises to keep audiences enthralled but there are no guarantees listener will resist the urge to stay in their seats.

A local band with an eclectic mix of songs 'Pigs'n Pearls' is a three piece band from Larne. Their acoustic sound leans towards blue grass, but there is an unusual use of Irish instruments in their arrangements, including a ulan pipe, 8 string bazokee and Irish flute, gives them a Celtic vibe on popular songs past and present.
