Store It – SORN It
25th October 2012
House and Stock is a brand new state-of-the-art self-storage facility based on Balmoral Road, just off Boucher Road in Belfast.
House and Stock offers secure, indoor vehicle storage for anything on wheels, ranging from motorcycles to caravans.
Motorcycle storage is available via individual units with their own lock and key or in an open plan space within the facility.
In addition to dry, secure, indoor storage, customers also benefit from access to free refreshments, free wireless internet and a tv room.
The facility is monitored by CCTV and alarm systems and it is open 7 days a week, with access limited to opening hours.
So whether you decide to lock up your bike for the winter months or all year round, you will still have access in order to recharge the battery or take it out for a spin.
Feel free to drop in and have a look around the facility and House and Stock will be happy to provide information and quotes to match your specific storage requirements.
If you don’t have access to a garage or shed for long term or short time storage then House and Stock could be a viable and secure option.

SORN It
If you are thinking of storing your bike up over the winter don’t forget you may need to notify the DVLNI and make a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification).
This would be the case if you are not renewing your vehicle licence Tax Disc – VED) because you are taking the vehicle off the road, then by law you must notify DVLNI. Every vehicle in Northern Ireland must either be taxed or have a SORN Declaration in force
Riders in Great Britain have a similar system in place but also have continuous insurance to tend with.
If you are SORNing your bike there is plenty of advice on the internet about preparing your bike for storage and putting it back on the road.
Don’t forget to check with your insurance company because they may offer discounts if the bike is off the road with a change in insurance cover.
Also don’t forget that over the winter, your riding skills may become rusty if you are “hibernating”.
Think of taking refresher training or book an advanced riding course or look out for the PSNI Bikesafe assessments after your hibernation!
