Top Riders Commit to Adelaide Masters Series
As the countdown to the opening round of the new 'Adelaide Masters Series' continues, a number of top riders have confirmed their intention to enter the chase for the championship. Attracted by extensive TV coverage and the biggest prize fund in Irish motorcycle racing, riders from both the short circuit and road racing scenes are adding the four Masters events to their schedule.
One of the biggest stars to throw their name into the pot is Michael Dunlop who will contest the Superbike class on the Street Sweep Kawasaki that he will also campaign on the roads during 2011. The growing stature of the Masters Series has been enough to tempt Dunlop, who was a Supersport winner at Mondello Park at the final event of 2010, into making his first full attempt at an Irish short circuit championship for a number of years.
One of his Dunlop's strongest rivals will be former ISB champion and 2010 'Adelaide Masters Series' runner-up Brian McCormack, who will tackle both the Supersport and Superbike classes in 2011. McCormack had a season long battle with Marshall Neill throughout last year, which saw him finish a close second in the championship, but take the win and €5,000 top prize at the season ending 'Mondello Masters'. While Neill may not make this year's series, due to UK commitments, his 2010 bikes will be back, with former Virgin Cup race winner Mark Pollock on-board. Pollock has taken over the Kingsbury Packaging bikes belonging to Gerald Kingham and will be hoping to emulate Marshall's impressive 2010 performances.
Negotiations are continuing with a number of UK teams currently competing in the 'BSB Evo' and 'British Superstock' classes, as well as Irish riders who had previously concentrated solely on the British Championship. Further exciting announcements are expected over the coming weeks with the final line-up expected to be the most attractive ever seen for an Irish championship.
The opening round of the Adelaide Masters Series takes place on the weekend of April 2nd & 3rd with qualifying and racing on Saturday and the main race day on Sunday. For further information see mondellopark.ie/adelaidemasters.
